History

Longtime Pauls Valley Judge and U.S. Congressman John B. Thomspon was returning to Pauls Valley from Washington aboard a train on September 19, 1919 when he suffered a fatal heart attack. Pauls Valley and the State of Oklahoma mourned the loss of a highly respected leader.

A few years after his death, Thompson's widow built a new home at 519 N. Ash for her family. Architect Harry Reynolds of Oklahoma City designed the home in the Mission style reflective of the Mexican or Spanish colonial days. The house has a large, 22 foot high arched window with multicolored stained glass insets that open up a two story living room with an overlooking balcony. The interior still boasts many of the fine architectural details today, including a carved stone fireplace and a solid oak front door.

Mrs. Thompson lived in the home until her death in 1966. Her son, James Thompson, stayed on in the home until his death in 1976. It was purchased in 1978 by Larry Boone, brother-in-law of Daniel Sprouse and his wife, Garvin County District Judge Candace Blalock, who own it today.
